How long do chiropractors go to school?
Chiropractors must complete a 4-year bachelors degree prior to enrolling in chiropractic college. Chiropractic college itself is the same number of classroom hours/credits as medical school.
I heard that once you start going to a chiropractor you have to keep coming back; is that true?
Much in the way that some people choose to use diet and exercise for the short term, chiropractic can be used for the short term, but ideally is part of a healthy lifestyle.
What do I need to know before my first appointment (chiropractic & methylation)?
Usually, it is best to wear comfortable loose fitting shoes. Prior to your visit, please fill out our new patient intake form at https://intake.mychirotouch.com/?clinic=BIBC0007
If you are unable to do this online, please show up 30 minutes prior to your first appointment and you will be able to do it in the office.
Does my insurance cover my treatment?
Back in Balance currently accepts State BCBS and we are non-participating providers with Medicare. Please ask the front desk for more information or questions regarding insurance coverage.
Do you get adjusted on the first visit?
The first visit consists of an evaluation of your history and exam. For complicated and chronic cases, we have found that a thorough understanding of your condition is more important than rushing into care. For that reason, many patients receive their first treatment on the second visit.
Do I need a referral for chiropractic?
No. Chiropractors are primary health care providers.
How long are my appointments?
The first visit or two will likely last 30 minutes. Routine/simple follow-ups are around 10 minutes.
Can chiropractors prescribe medications?
No. Philosophically Chiropractors concern themselves with optimizing the natural innate healing ability of the body. Think of it as an inside out approach, and drugs are an outside in approach.
Are chiropractors able to order blood work or imaging?
We can order labs and imaging, however, depending on your insurance type it will determine how the costs will be paid for. Medicare patients must have labs and imaging ordered by their primary care provider in order for Medicare to cover the costs.
Do the prices between pediatric adjustments and adult adjustments vary?
No. Our prices are determined by the number of regions of the body being manipulated, not by age group.
How long does it take to start feeling better?
Every person is different. The severity of and duration of the condition are important factors affecting healing speed. We have a sign up in the office that says “Chiropractic isn’t designed to make you instantly FEEL better, its designed to make you instantly HEAL better.”
Can I work out after adjustments?
Absolutely. There is current research that shows the brain is even more receptive to exercise immediately after an adjustment.
Should I schedule my massage before or after my adjustment?
This is determined by your chiropractor as it can be different for each person. Please discuss at appointments.
What is Applied Kinesiology?
We sometimes call it muscle testing. The brain and nervous system controls all other systems of the body including the muscles. We can use muscle testing as a window into the function of the nervous system.
What kind of information can muscle testing tell me? What are the limitations of it?
Muscle testing is an elegant window into the function of the nervous system. Routinely our doctors use muscle testing to get neurological, biochemical/nutritional and stress-related information.
What does Chiropractic mean?
The literal translation is “with hand.” Most chiropractic adjustments are done with the doctor’s hands, but sometimes we may also choose to use an adjusting instrument.
Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic is one of the safest forms of health care available. The most aggressive type of chiropractic adjustment is no more dangerous than turning and looking backward over your shoulder.
What is the age range of patients that you see?
Is it safe to be seen if I have Osteoporosis?
Make sure your doctor is aware of this problem, so they can tailor adjustments that are of the lower force varitety, to be overly cautious.
